Frequently Asked Questions

  • Sessions last 50 minutes.

To ensure maximum flexibility and comfort for my clients, I offer multiple channels for our sessions. You can work with me face-to-face at my studio, by telephone, using 'Zoom' - or by using a combination of all three.

Face-to-face is often deemed to be the most successful for clients, however I appreciate work/family commitments can restrict a client and I therefore I am happy to support the most appropriate solution for the client.

  • I work Monday to Friday, and will seek to accommodate any timing, as long as it fits within my current client schedule.

  • This very much depends on where you are now and what you'd like to achieve. I recommend ten sessions because of the deep-rooted nature of issues that clients bring to therapy. However, I am content to be flexible dependent on personal needs/financial restrictions. I offer open-ended therapy, which means that you determine how long you wish to continue coming to sessions. If we agree to work together, we can discuss this fully to ensure that you receive the support that's best for you.

  • Within psychotherapy, the time between the sessions is an important time for reflection and contemplation on next steps or actions you may want to undertake and explore. These can be shared with me and discussed during session but can be client determined. However, we may collectively agree and formulate specific tasks or actions for you to undertake between sessions, to maintain momentum and traction. However, this will be at your discretion and not enforced.

  • Because psychotherapy is such a unique, personal relationship, I believe a chemistry session is a vital free online 30-minute session for me to introduce myself to you, describe how I 'do' therapy, understand any issues or hesitations you may have about the process, and last and most fundamentally to gain a little high level insight into what you are considering bringing to therapy. You can either commit to press ahead with formal therapy in the session, or you can reflect on your experience, and let me know your thoughts in due course.

  • In line with my membership of and accreditation with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I adhere to strong ethical guidelines that ensure all information will be discussed in strictest confidence. I will never disclose anything discussed, unless I deem you are of risk to yourself or others, or by requirements placed on me by law.

  • Psychotherapy is a collaborative endeavour, so be ready to put energy and commitment into our work. This includes prioritising 'me time' for yourself to prepare for your sessions, engaging fully in your sessions, noting reflections and insights after sessions, carrying out any actions or assignments we may agree, and responding to review questions I will send you from time to time to help us measure progress and fine-tune your therapy.

In each session, have your diary with you and pen and paper to jot down thoughts, insights and actions. The notes that you take can very positively influence the quality and effectiveness of our work together, as (of course!) will carrying out any agreed actions.

  • Have a chat with me! I offer a free, informal, no obligation online 30-minute chat via WhatsApp video or Facetime to help you decide if  therapy is right for you.
